I'm of half Chinese and half European heritage and I appreciated Mr. Martin's question because I have felt shamed for both racial identities. As a child, I felt implicitly shamed for looking "foreign," but as an adult I have felt explicitly shamed for being white (white people are "the oppressor," racist by default, guilty for their ancestor's crimes, etc.).
